Eggs are a great source of proteins, vitamins, and healthy fats. They’re also inexpensive, easy to prepare and can help you feel full and satisfied. But, eggs can get boring if you prepare them in the same way every day. You probably have one of two ways of cooking eggs, but don’t limit yourself to the familiar.

If you want to incorporate eggs into your diet several times a week, be sure to prepare them in a variety of ways. Eggs can be a healthy and nutritious part of a post-bariatric diet. Check with your doctor or dietician to see if eggs should be a part of your diet after weight loss surgery.

#1: Scrambled

This is probably the simplest and fastest way to cook an egg. But if you rely on this method exclusively, before you know it, your scrambled egg is going to be the most boring part of your day. To mix things up a little bit, add a half cup of cottage cheese per two eggs before scrambling them. This will give your eggs more flavor and lightness. Or, add some fresh vegetables such as chopped onion, cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, and broccoli for a fresh egg and veggie scramble. Scramble eggs on medium low heat and allow eggs to set before starting to scramble.

#2: Poached

This is a low-fat way to prepare an egg, because it doesn’t require added oil. To poach an egg, bring water to a low boil. Crack each egg into a small bowl. Gently pour the eggs into the water. Push the eggs with a spoon. Turn off the heat and allow the eggs to stand until they are cooked to your preference. Remove eggs from the water with a slotted spoon. Season to taste.

Fried eggs

#3: Omelet

These are a classic egg creation that allows you to get creative. Possible fillings are endless: smoked salmon, mushrooms, kale, broccoli, peppers, and virtually any kind of cheese. It might take a little practice getting the hang of the omelet technique, but it’s the time because it offers so much variety and flavor.

#4: Hardboiled

This is the perfect high-protein snack that can be simply mouthwatering throughout the day. Pack one or two in your lunch pack for work and munch on them for a boost through the day.  Or, add hardboiled eggs to a green salad for a satisfying meal.

#5: Baked

This is a good alternative to fried eggs and it’s very easy. To bake an egg, crack it into a baking dish that’s coated with non-stick spray and sprinkle with pepper and salt. Then, pour one tablespoon of milk or water over the eggs. Bake at 325 degrees until the egg whites are set. If you want something a little more elaborate, add salsa, fresh tomatoes, or fresh spinach or kale on top of the cooked egg for some added pizzazz and flavor.
