One of the pillars of successful lifestyle change after surgery is Exercise. Most of us were educated about exercise by our Jr. High gym teachers. Needless to say, what worked in those days will not work for obese adults. Unfortunately, professionals (trainers in gyms, etc.) often use the “work out harder to have the best results” prescription. These paths are unsuccessful in obese or morbidly obese people.
Our exercise physiologists subscribe to the “exercise smarter, not harder” philosophy of exercise. We have implemented state of the art tools to find your best “fat burning” zones, requiring substantially less heart rate elevation than what is generally accepted. Some people have significant back, hip or knee pain that limits exercise – our team can work with those limitations, not against them.
Lauren and Colby are responsible for administering fitness assessments and metabolic testing for surgical and non-surgical metabolic program patients at WeightWise. Utilizing their experience and education, they are capable of prescribing individualized cardio, strength and flexibility programs for members and patients of all levels, based on fitness and metabolic assessments.
As you lose your weight after a weight-loss operation, your exercise program will evolve as well. Remember, the benefit of exercise is equally important to the mind as it is to the muscles.
