On April 27th we will tie our running shoes and participate in one of the most amazing races, The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. It was voted “12th Must-run” by Runner’s World Magazine. No matter how you participate, whether you are walking, running, volunteering or just a spectator you will feel all the positive energy that Oklahoma City has to offer! Oklahoma City puts on this race to remember the 168 lives that were taken during the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in 1995. I have participated in this for 10 years now and every year it amazes me how we come together as a state to remember the lives of these people. At the beginning of the races there is a 168 seconds of silence and it is completely silent. It is a time to reflect and take a moment to remember why you are participating. Along the course you have people cheering for you! It is just the most amazing atmosphere as a participant and spectator. If you are not interested in participating this year, I highly recommend going to watch!
The events are:
Full Marathon 26.2 miles
Half Marathon 13.1 miles
Relay (5 person team) 26.2 miles
Kids 1 mile fun run
