Bacon Wrapped
Asparagus
Crisp asparagus spears wrapped in bacon and roasted at high heat until the asparagus is tender and the bacon is golden and slightly caramelized. A side dish that looks impressive, takes ten minutes of prep, and disappears from the table faster than anything else you put out. Three ingredients. Zero fuss.
- 1 lb asparagus, ends trimmed
- 6–8 slices bacon (or turkey bacon)
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- — olive oil spray
-
1
Preheat & prep
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup. Trim the woody ends off the asparagus — snap them where they naturally break or cut about an inch off the bottom.
-
2
Season & wrap
Spray the asparagus lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder and black pepper. Group 2–3 spears together depending on their thickness and wrap one slice of bacon around each bundle in a spiral from bottom to top, tucking the end underneath to secure it. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

3
Bake
Bake on the middle rack at 400°F for 15–20 minutes until the asparagus is tender and the bacon is browned and cooked through. Thicker asparagus spears will need closer to 20 minutes; thin spears may be done by 15.

Broil for extra crispiness & serve
If the bacon needs more color, switch to the broiler on high for 1–2 minutes — watch closely and pull immediately once it's crispy and caramelized. Serve hot straight from the pan.
- Regular bacon crisps best: Regular bacon renders its fat during roasting and crisps up more reliably than turkey bacon — if you want the crispiest result, go with regular. Turkey bacon is a perfectly good lower-fat alternative but may need the broiler finish to get fully crispy.
- Tuck the seam underneath: Placing the bacon bundle seam-side down keeps it from unraveling during baking — no toothpicks needed if you tuck it properly and it stays put the whole time.
- Asparagus thickness matters: Thin asparagus spears cook faster and can become too soft before the bacon crisps — medium to thick spears hold up better to the full bake time. Adjust groups of 2–3 spears based on thickness.
- Great for entertaining: These are one of the most visually impressive WeightWise appetizers you can put out — plate them on a long platter and they look like they came from a catering menu. Nobody needs to know they took 10 minutes of prep.
