Dr. Toby Broussard
MD, FACS
Dr. Toby Broussard was born in Morgan City, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He then entered medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport and earned his M.D.
Dr. Broussard’s surgical training began in Birmingham, Alabama, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. After completing his surgical residency, he moved back to Louisiana and began a well-rounded private practice that he managed for 13 years.
During Dr. Broussard’s residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, he was exposed to bariatric surgery and continued to develop a strong interest in it while operating his private practice. Eventually, Dr. Broussard made the decision to devote most of his time to bariatric surgery. He enjoys helping patients transform their lives medically and socially. “[It] is not only thrilling for the patients but is particularly rewarding for me as a surgeon,” Dr. Broussard says. His decision to accept a position with WeightWise was a natural fit and provided an incredible opportunity for him to pursue his surgical passion.
Since moving to Oklahoma City, Dr. Broussard has helped WeightWise to become the state’s most respected and active weight loss surgery program. WeightWise has an impressive safety record since opening the doors in 2006, having done approximately 3000 cases since then. With a 0% death rate and a major complication rate of less than 1-2%, Dr. Broussard and Dr. Walton can confidently recommend weight loss surgery to their patients.
Dr. Broussard is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, Caraway Surgical Society, Southeastern Surgical Congress, Oklahoma Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
Dr. Broussard, an avid LSU fan, enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his children.
