Making plans for a new you for the coming year? Setting goals for your health is important and if losing weight is on your radar, WeightWise can help. We know that for some people healthy eating and exercise are not enough to lose weight. Gastric sleeve surgery could be a great option for you.
However, there is no one right answer for how much weight you will lose nor how fast you’ll lose it. There are a lot of factors involved, including family history, what your starting weight is, and how dedicated you are to the process. Weight loss procedures (sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, gastric bypass surgery) are just one piece of the puzzle.
Before any bariatric surgery at WeightWise, you will meet with one of our surgeons for an initial consultation. Potential gastric sleeve patients will be asked about family history, why they want to lose weight, if there are any past injuries or emotional blocks that could affect weight loss.
During this conversation, the expected weight loss post-surgery will also be discussed. Depending on your current weight, losing 100 lbs may not be the most ideal weight loss target. However, most target weights are reached around one year after surgery.
How much weight do you lose 6 months after gastric sleeve surgery?
The weight loss rate can range, depending on the person and their individual goals. Before you undergo surgery, talk to your doctor about what your ideal weight is for your body style and height. It’s also important to note that this is not weight loss that happens overnight.
It requires dedication and a patient, positive attitude. After surgery, some people can lose between 50 and 100 pounds in one to two years. Not everyone experiences these numbers – it could be a little less or a little more. Losing weight after surgery requires changing your diet and lifestyle.
Weight loss surgery impacts your digestive greatly. It will take some adjustment after you have surgery. That means you will need to be patient with your body and the healing process. But remember, your new body and newfound energy will be worth all of the efforts you’re putting into it.
What’s gastric sleeve surgery?
This laparoscopic procedure is an extremely effective way to lose weight. The physician removes 70 to 80 percent of your stomach, leaving a small sleeve that’s about the size of a hotdog. Hormone changes happen after this surgery to help control your hunger and food cravings. The result: you eat less and you lose weight.
However, if you expect to lose any weight and keep it off for the long term, surgery is just the first step. Dieting and exercising are also required in the months after surgery and the rest of your life. WeightWise will give each client a dietitian and exercise physiologist to help plan meals and physical activity.
Remember, you’re not in this alone. We want you to succeed as much as you do. And while you’ll be going through several physical changes, we also want you to be mindful of possible emotional changes, too. That’s why each patient will be provided with a patient advocate.
This advocate will be there when you need a pep talk, to answer questions about insurance, and to share in your successes. We feel this holistic approach to weight loss gives our patients the best chance to lose the weight and keep it off.

Good Morning Philip! Those are all great questions to discuss with our operating physicians. In terms of alcohol, we do recommend keeping it out for the first 6 months post-op. That is due to the fact that it will slow down your weight loss, deplete your b vitamins, and increase your risk of dehydration. After the first 6 months, you could have a drink once a week. However, no carbonation (beer) due to it will stretch out your stomach over time. The first step is to watch the free seminar. Then we will get you in to see the surgeon whom will discuss the pros and cons of each surgery, review your health history, and discuss our process to operation. They will also go over any questions/concerns that you may have at this time.

Hi, does the insurance IEHP cover the cost of the gastric sleeve surgery? That’s the insurance that I currently have. My BMI is over 50, I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and high cholesterol. So I just wanted more info on the surgery. Thank you and have a great day!
Good Morning Michelle! I am unable to check insurance benefits. However, you can call your insurance company and see if they have a bariatric surgery plan. They should be able to provide you with all the information regarding that plan, if you have one :).
